What I Am Trying To Eat

This is what I am trying to eat in simple-traditional stalls I posted before: fried tempeh (covered with rice flour) with boiled cassava leaf and hot tea.
It does look simple, but believe it or not, it was very spicy and enjoyable!
Look at the ornamented zinc-plate that is still used.

Simple Breakfast

This is a routine activity in the mornings at the market near Borobudur Temple, Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.

These people buy simple breakfast in a simple-traditional open stalls.

Simple but healthy menu consists of: fried tofu, fried tempeh (processed soybean), warm rice, hot tea and a variety of seasoned vegetables.

Grandma Selling Fantastic Food

This photo was taken by Tarsisius Wintoro, my fellow friend founder of  JAPEMETHE COMMUNITY, in traditional market near Minggir, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Central Java (in December 2009).
There are many fantastic food with unique taste and served in traditional way. This "Incredile Grandma" was selling TEMPE BACEM. Although she was too old she do not want to let sit and stand idle. She was a hard working grandma.
TEMPE BACEM is a kind of Javanese traditional food made from fried soy beans with spiced sugar. It's will (truly!) leave a fantastic taste in your mouth. If you have a visit to Yogyakarta you should try it. Feel the uniqueness and the hospitality of Yogyakarta.

Original "NOKIA" from Indonesia

I do not know these a creative people's work or the work of the plagiarist. NOKIA labels used for sandals! What's on their mind, I really don't know why.
Clearly, this NOKIA will not be able to call or facebooking. It only used for footwear.
I still laughing staring at this.

I got this photo from Gati Kusumo Budiani.

Indonesian Traditional Taffy

This is a traditional taffy (gulali: indonesian). Made from sugar-gel with various shape like: pistols, teletubbies, ducks, butterflies, bunnies, fruits etc. The man said that he is the third generation. His grand father and his father were making and selling this taffy, too. He just want to continue his family heritage.
In 'the M & M's and Wrigley's era' these kind of candy are really old-fashioned and one of a kind product. I found it in Sunday Market, around Velodrome, Malang, East Java.

The process of Making Taffy. Fully handmade.

The materials.

The moulds. With various shape.

This old man was selling "coconut-ice". He walked around with his "wheeled-showcase" in a neighbourhoud of Sawojajar, Malang, East Java. With his smiley-face he asked everyone who want to buy a cup of "coconut-ice".
Don't asked him, where or how he wash-out the dishes.

es (indonesian) : ice
degan (javanese) : coconut

Snapshot: "Banana Seller"

This old lady was selling bananas in a traditional market in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Only a few bananas showed on this old-wood table, in the corner of the market. She looked so quiet.
